FAMILIA

1 Then Jacob looked up and saw Esau coming with his 400 men. So he divided the children among Leah, Rachel, and his two servant wives. 2 He put the servant wives and their children at the front, Leah and her children next, and Rachel and Joseph last. 3 Then Jacob went on ahead. As he approached his brother, he bowed to the ground seven times before him. 4 Then Esau ran to meet him and embraced him, threw his arms around his neck, and kissed him. And they both wept.    Genesis 33:1-4

Familia/Family……two brothers reunited after everything that had happened in the past. Then Dinah’s brothers avenging the wrong committed to their sister. Lastly….a mother dying giving birth…..naming him with her last breath!

16 Leaving Bethel, Jacob and his clan moved on toward Ephrath. But Rachel went into labor while they were still some distance away. Her labor pains were intense. 17 After a very hard delivery, the midwife finally exclaimed, “Don’t be afraid—you have another son!” 18 Rachel was about to die, but with her last breath she named the baby Ben-oni (which means “son of my sorrow”). The baby’s father, however, called him Benjamin (which means “son of my right hand”).    Genesis 35:16-18

Like Jacob, I have experienced joy and sorrow, ups and downs with my family. Haven’t we all?

Today let’s pray a special prayer for our families. I pray God’s blessing and protection over the family of each of you that are reading this!

Shalom!

Today’s readings: Genesis 32:1-35:27

  1. The reuniting of the two brothers is one of the most moving, grace-filled, and oft-overlooked in all of Scripture. Thanks for sharing this one, Rick!
