Bad Boys

When Joseph’s brothers threw him in the empty cistern they seemed to be a heartless band of brothers. At first they considered killing him then eventually selling him as a slave. They were a gang of tough guys.

Today’s reading starts off making Joseph’s brothers sound like criminal cronies from a Hollywood comedy.

1 When Jacob heard that grain was available in Egypt, he said to his sons, “Why are you standing around looking at one another? 2 I have heard there is grain in Egypt. Go down there, and buy enough grain to keep us alive. Otherwise we’ll die.”  Genesis 42:1-2

They went from bad boys to clueless while little brother was storing up grain in Egypt

6 Since Joseph was governor of all Egypt and in charge of selling grain to all the people, it was to him that his brothers came. When they arrived, they bowed before him with their faces to the ground. 7 Joseph recognized his brothers instantly, but he pretended to be a stranger and spoke harshly to them. “Where are you from?” he demanded.
“From the land of Canaan,” they replied. “We have come to buy food.”   Genesis 42:6-7

From clueless to humble……………. kissing the dirt at the feet of the brother they sold in to slavery.

I bet there is a message in there somewhere. Talk among yourselves.

Today’s reading:
Genesis 42:1-45:15

  1. My father only listens to CNBC and golf. I office with my dad so I listen to CNBC everyday. Yikes!!! As most of us know our economy is experiencing a famine for two years, 2008 stock market crash, and now the US solvency rating was downgraded about 3 months ago and Europe was downgraded last Friday. However, economist are still reporting percentage of family debt is higher and spending is oblivious to the lack of jobs. Like Rick I see a big connection between the brothers and us now Hopefully we are going from clueless to humble. Our God is a God of discipline and I wonder if we are learning yet?
