Temporary Temple it ain't that simple

12 Then Solomon prayed, “O Lord, you have said that you would live in a thick cloud of darkness. 13 Now I have built a glorious Temple for you, a place where you can live forever! I Kings 8:12-13

Then Solomon prayed, “O Lord, you have said that you would live in a thick cloud of darkness. Now I have built a glorious Temple for you, a place where you can live forever!” I Chronicles 6:1-2

18 Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. 19 Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, 20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body. I Corinthians 6:18-20

20 “What!” they exclaimed. “It has taken forty-six years to build this Temple, and you can rebuild it in three days?” 21 But when Jesus said “this temple,” he meant his own body. 22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered he had said this, and they believed both the Scriptures and what Jesus had said.  John 2:20-22

Okay so I did add some verses that was not included in today's reading.

After Solomon finished the temple he put what was important in the temple like The Ark and the silver, gold and various articles that his father David had dedicated.

We read that our bodies are a temple and there are 3 ways to put things in our temple.

Our mouth, our ears and our eyes.

What are we eating, smoking or taking that is destroying our temple?

What are we listening to that we are putting in to our temple?

What are we reading and looking at that we put in our temple?

Salomon's temple was magnificent but study the human body! What craftsmanship by the creator!

As we read on this year we will find out that this temple is temporary and we will get something new.

Keep reading and putting god's word in your temple!

16,500 gallons of water

The Sea was placed on a base of twelve bronze oxen, all facing outward. Three faced north, three faced west, three faced south, and three faced east, and the Sea rested on them. The walls of the Sea were about three inches[g] thick, and its rim flared out like a cup and resembled a water lily blossom. It could hold about 16,500 gallons[h] of water.
He also made ten smaller basins for washing the utensils for the burnt offerings. He set five on the south side and five on the north. But the priests washed themselves in the Sea.  2 Chronicles 4:4-6

When I read this my mind jumps in gear wondering how they carried 16,500 gallons of water. Then I wonder how they clean or change the water if it sits stagnant in a huge bowl and the priests are washing themselves in this sea.

But when searching I read that there is significance to the direction of the bulls, the water symbolizing the Red Sea, etc.

This is a perfect example of the depth of the scriptures. We can do a whole study on just the bronze sea.

If you have time to do some research of your own post what you have discovered about the bronze sea!

What would you ask for?

That night the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream, and God said, “What do you want? Ask, and I will give it to you!”
Solomon replied, “You showed faithful love to your servant my father, David, because he was honest and true and faithful to you. And you have continued your faithful love to him today by giving him a son to sit on his throne.
“Now, O Lord my God, you have made me king instead of my father, David, but I am like a little child who doesn’t know his way around. And here I am in the midst of your own chosen people, a nation so great and numerous they cannot be counted! Give me an understanding heart so that I can govern your people well and know the difference between right and wrong. For who by himself is able to govern this great people of yours?”
10 The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for wisdom. 11 So God replied, “Because you have asked for wisdom in governing my people with justice and have not asked for a long life or wealth or the death of your enemies— 12 I will give you what you asked for! I will give you a wise and understanding heart such as no one else has had or ever will have! 13 And I will also give you what you did not ask for—riches and fame! No other king in all the world will be compared to you for the rest of your life! 14 And if you follow me and obey my decrees and my commands as your father, David, did, I will give you a long life.”
15 Then Solomon woke up and realized it had been a dream. He returned to Jerusalem and stood before the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant, where he sacrificed burnt offerings and peace offerings. Then he invited all his officials to a great banquet.   I Kings 5:3-15

If you were given this chance what would you ask for?

$$$ to get out of debt and never have to work?

Would you ask to be healed from a medical condition so you  no longer feel the pain?

Think.....what kind of wisdom can God give us? We can study, take classes and read books to obtain wisdom and knowledge that comes only from man.

Would you or have you ever asked for God's wisdom for something that was not to directly benefit you?

Back in the 80's

In 1982 Debbie and Michael W Smith wrote a song "Great Is The Lord" Using scripture from Psalm 145:3

Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise!
No one can measure his greatness. Psalm 145:3

We sang this song frequently back in the 80's and every time I read today's verse I start singing that song. It triggers me to praise God! All off that one verse in Psalms.

As you watch this short video think of how timeless God's word is. When King David wrote this he did not wear the type of clothes the people in this video are wearing and today we dress differently than when Micheal W Smith performed this song. But the words, the scripture is timeless!

If you did not find yourself praising God listen to it again!

I believe God is well pleased every time we declare "Great Is The Lord!"
