The Avengers

16 “But if someone strikes and kills another person with a piece of iron, it is murder, and the murderer must be executed. 17 Or if someone with a stone in his hand strikes and kills another person, it is murder, and the murderer must be put to death. 18 Or if someone strikes and kills another person with a wooden object, it is murder, and the murderer must be put to death. 19 The victim’s nearest relative is responsible for putting the murderer to death. When they meet, the avenger must put the murderer to death. 20 So if someone hates another person and pushes him or throws a dangerous object at him and he dies, it is murder. 21 Or if someone hates another person and hits him with a fist and he dies, it is murder. In such cases, the avenger must put the murderer to death when they meet.  Numbers 35:16-21

I thought about this as I read it. Could I avenge the death of my nearest relative had I lived in the era that the above scripture gives instruction for?

In rage we might be able to avenge a murder immediately but could we go hunt down the murder and avenge the death.

Would that give us comfort and help the grieving process of losing a close family member or would it add to us the guilt of killing someone else?

Just some stimulating thought from today’s scripture…………………….

Lastly my apologies for being absent the last couple of days. I was ill but doing better now.

Today’s readings:
NUMBERS 34:1-36:13
