Moses’ Death Foretold
48 That same day the LORD said to Moses, 49 “Go to Moab, to the mountains east of the river,[l] and climb Mount Nebo, which is across from Jericho. Look out across the land of Canaan, the land I am giving to the people of Israel as their own special possession. 50 Then you will die there on the mountain. You will join your ancestors, just as Aaron, your brother, died on Mount Hor and joined his ancestors. 51 For both of you betrayed me with the Israelites at the waters of Meribah at Kadesh[m] in the wilderness of Zin. You failed to demonstrate my holiness to the people of Israel there. 52 So you will see the land from a distance, but you may not enter the land I am giving to the people of Israel.” Deuteronomy 32:48-52

Would you agree that Moses sacrifice in service to God was great?

Think back to the time he first approached Pharaoh to leading Israel out of Egypt, through the wilderness with everyone complaining up to the point of this passage where God tells him that he is going to die without entering the land that God was giving to the people of Israel.

How would you feel if that was you?

After everything you had done for God and his people!

To what extent are you serving God and his people compared to the service of Moses?

Join me in praying this psalm from today’s reading:

12 Teach us to realize the brevity of life,
so that we may grow in wisdom.
13 O LORD, come back to us!
      How long will you delay?
      Take pity on your servants!
14 Satisfy us each morning with your unfailing love,
so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives.
15 Give us gladness in proportion to our former misery!
Replace the evil years with good.
 16 Let us, your servants, see you work again;
let our children see your glory.
17 And may the Lord our God show us his approval
      and make our efforts successful.
      Yes, make our efforts successful!
Psalm 90:12-17
